To stitch this hand embroidery Halloween Wreath you will need:

  • Lazy May 'Happy Halloween' embroidery pattern set (transfer)
  • 30cm x 30cm (12"x12") white or natural fabric (I have used unbleached calico)
  • DMC thread in the following colours; 04, 310, 535, C3799 (etoile)
  • Embroidery Hoop, Needle, Scissors

Preparation

Transfer your pattern to the fabric following the instructions on the packet.

How to make a halloween embroidery hoop

Spiders

Begin by stitching the spiders, stitch over the outlines of the spiders body with stem stitch using 3 strands of black thread (colour 301), click here for an illustrated guide to stem stitch.
When you have covered the outline continue your stitches inside the body to completely fill it in with stitches, work your stitches in a circular pattern.
Once the body is completed take two strands of black thread (colour 301) and stitch the legs. Use two long back stitches for each leg, click here for an illustrated guide to back stitch.

Text

To stitch the text thread your needle with 2 strands of black thread (colour 301) and stitch over the outlines of the text using small back stitches.
Once you have completed the outlines fill in each letter using 3 strands of black thread (colour 301) and a back stitch. Keep the stitches small and stitch up and down each letter covering the fabric beneath.

Spider's Web

Take two strands of the glittery grey etoile thread (colour C3799) and thread your needle. Cover the pattern lines of the spiders web with back stitch. Keep the stitches small.

Woven Roses

Begin by stitching the leaves underneath the roses. Cover the pattern lines with black thread (colour 301) using 2 strands and stem stitch. Once you have covered the outlines fill in the spaces in the leaves with dark grey thread (colour 535), using 3 strands of thread and satin stitch, for an illustrated guide to satin stitch click here.

Work your stitches diagonally from edge to middle as shown below.

Starting with the flower on the left, select 4 strands of light grey thread (colour 04) and follow the instructions here to complete the first woven rose. Use 4 strands of the sparkly grey etoile thread (colour C3799) for the middle rose and 4 strands of light grey (colour 04) thread on the right hand rose. 

At the bottom of the hoop the leaves are stitched in exactly the same ways as mentioned above, the rose on the left is stitched with 4 strands of dark grey thread (colour 535) and the rose on the right is stitched with 4 strands of light grey thread (colour 04)

Roses

The stem of each rose is stitches with 2 strands of black thread (colour 301) using stem stitch The thorns are stitched with 2 strands of black thread using back stitch.

Outlike the leaves and flowers using 2 strands of dark grey thread (colour 535) and stem stitch, keeping the stitches small. Finally, fill in the leaves and flowers with 2 strands of light grey thread (colour 04) using satin stitch.
